This Web Site has been designed as a one-stop-shop, where you can select your external light fittings at your leisure, without the need for a salesman to show you catalogue after catalogue of different fittings, or trail around the highstreet. Once you have selected your internal light fittings and accessories you can telephone us with your requirements and we will give you a free quotation for materials and fitting.


Newton Electrical Contractors Ltd certify all work carried out with Approved certification as recommended in Part 6 of the IEE Wiring Regulations BS 7671-2008 (as amended),


All external lighting installations are notifiable to the Local Building Control Body under Part P Building Control legislation(Newton Electrical Contractors include this service in all external lighting quotations given). The IEE guidance note 7 chapter 13 special locations - covers special locations - Gardens. Please note the following points have been extracted for your guidance:


  • All equipment rated less than 32Amps is to be protected by a 30milli Amp Residual Current Device (RCD or RCBO) and has a disconnection time of less than 40 milliseconds.

  • All cables should be protected againgt external damage either by armouring or a suitable enclosure. Double Insulated Cables (normal PVC cable for the house or flex) should not be buried directly in the ground, nor fixed to fences that provide inadequate support and protection.

  • Armoured or Mechanically Protected Cables should be buried to a depth of at least 450mm and be marked with route tape.

  • Overhead cables should be supported by a suitable gantry wire. All external lighting and switch gear should be capable of withstanding the enviroment they are installed in and rated to an Index of Protection (IP)Code for this enviroment.

  • Care should be taken when installing cables exposed to lots of Sunlight as the ultrviolet light will deteriorate them. PVC cables must be shielded in black conduit, unless the cable is a type suitable for such exposure.
